Abstract

The aim of the study is to analyze gender issue and feminist idea in through the female character in John Green’s Paper Tows written in 2008. The method used for this study is qualitative approach by describing and analyzing the character in the story. The theory used is the theory of character by two experts Butler and Abram. The story portrays gender stereotype especially on women that are seen and treated differently with men. Gender issue found in the novel actually has made women and men seem to have different position that men are superior and women are inferior. Because of that stereotype, there are a lot of feminists who stand against that social construction and showing their aspiration through literary works such as the female character in this novel. Keywords: Gender, Feminist, Female, John Green, Paper Towns, Stereotype, Qualitative Approach, Butler, Abram, Superior, Inferior.
