Abstract

This study is aimed to know the materials used in teaching speaking, to describe the activity used in teaching speaking through role play and to find out the result of teaching speaking by using role play through Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) at MI YASISKA Kedaung Pamulang. The study uses qualitative approach. The qualitative data were obtained by observing the teaching and learning process during the implementation of role play, interviewing the English teacher and giving the questionnaires to the students. The materials used in teaching speaking were compiled by the English teacher that are supported by English textbook and internet. The speaking activities were in pair and group conversations. From the result of the questionnaires, it revealed that most students enjoyed learning speaking through role play because it gives them chance to speak, in practicing a a lot; students improve their speaking skill. Based on the result, it can be concluded that teaching speaking through role play using CLT can improve the students’ speaking skill.
