Abstract

This study is aimed to find and analyze the negative self schema and the causes in By the Time You Read This I’ll be Dead (2010) novel by Julie Anne Peters. The discussion related to the content of the study focused on negative self-schemes possessed by people who are depressed and the impact of environment to the self-schema. The method used in this study is a qualitative approach by describing and analyzing the main character in the novel. The theory used is the theory of negative self-schema by Aaron Beck. The result of this study shows that Daelyn as the main character has several negative self-schemas from bullying that came from her friends and adult. She also became an example of a victim of bullying and become depressed. Keyword: Negative self-schema, Depression, Judgement, Bullying, Body Shamming, By the Time You Read This I’ll be Dead (2010)
