Abstract
This study aims to identify compound words that were found in Jakarta Post newspaper published on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, to analyze the most used, to analyze types of compound words, and to explain their meanings. The writer used theory from Andrew Carstairs McCarthy to identify compound word and word formation process. The writer used Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary Sixth Edition 2000 vocabulary to explain its words and its compound words. Qualitative approach used to analyze the data. Based on to this analyzing the writer found there are many compound words used in this newspaper, however the writer took 60 compound words only. The writer found compound words that formed from noun, adjective, and verb. Compound noun is the most used that is 33 compound nouns and 23 closed forms.
