Abstract

The aim of this study is to discuss the process of teaching speaking by using Communicative Language Teacing (CLT) at SDN Perigi Baru. Therefore, this study is conducted to teach the speaking skill of the sixth grade students at SDN Perigi Baru by using CLT methodology. The data were qualitative. The qualitative data were obtained by observing the teaching and learning process during the implementation of the actions, interviewing and holding discussions with the English teacher and give the questionnaire. The material used by the taeacher was from text book “English book for Elementary Teacher”. The classroom activity was pair-work conversation. The result from questionnaire, most students enjoy learning speaking in English class using CLT, because the teacher teach them clearly and always gives opportunity to the students to express their ideas and opinions. And, it can be seen from the English score of the students after got the test from the teacher. The highest score of the student in learning speaking in English class is 80 and the lowest score is 60 with average 70,3. It can be concluded that teaching speaking using Communicative Language Teaching can help the students to speak, and the class activities were communicative.
