Abstract

This study is aimed at discussing teaching reading through games using Communicative Approach (CLT) by describing the process, finding the material, and analyzing the result of the students’ score and opinion, in the first grade SMAN 1 Tenjo. The methodology used in this study is, qualitative method to analysis the data based on the descriptive analysis. Furthermore, in this study the data collecting were through observing, interviewing the English teacher and giving the questionnaire to the students. As the result the materials of teaching through games are useful for students, not only the students are communicative but also can do the tasks, based on the group task the students’ score 85, is as the highest score and 75 as the lowest score. Therefore, reading through games using Communicative Approach (CLT) which was applied in the classroom is successful to the increase the students’ ability. In addition, it makes the students more active in the classroom. Key words: Teaching Reading, Games, Communicative approach (CLT), Observation, Interview and Questionnaire.
